Before the Procedure
In the weeks leading up to your appointment, avoid sun exposure and tanning beds, as tanned skin can increase the risk of side effects. Refrain from waxing, plucking, or electrolysis for at least four weeks before treatment, as these methods can disturb the hair follicle. Shaving is allowed and even recommended the day before your procedure to ensure the laser targets the hair follicle effectively.
On the day of your appointment, wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid irritation on the treated area. You may also be advised to avoid applying any lotions, deodorants, or other products to the area being treated.
Immediately After the Procedure
Post-treatment, it is normal to experience some redness and swelling in the treated area, similar to a mild sunburn. This should subside within a few hours to a couple of days. Applying cool compresses can help alleviate any discomfort. Your skin may also feel slightly sensitive, so it is important to avoid hot showers, saunas, and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.
Ongoing Aftercare
To protect your skin, avoid direct sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher on the treated areas. This is crucial for at least a month following the procedure1. You may also be prescribed a soothing cream to help with any residual discomfort.
Remember, multiple sessions are typically required to achieve optimal results, as hair grows in cycles. Most patients need between six to eight treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart.
